Delegate Dan Morhaim is the only physician in the Maryland House of Delegates. First elected in 1994, Delegate Morhaim is Deputy Marjority Leader, serves on the Health and Government Operations Committee and chairs the sub-commitee on Government Operations. He is House Chair of the Joint Committee on Health Care Delivery and Finance.
As a physician, Dr. Morhaim is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He was the founding Chair of Emergency Medicine at Franklin Square Hospital, and he worked there from 1981 to 1995. He continues on staff at Sinai, Northwest, and the Baltimore VA Hospitals. He is on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health where he runs a lecture series, works with graduate students, and does research in health policy.
He serves on the Board of the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute (UMBI), and he has published articles promoting biotech. Working with other legislators, he started a biotech caucus to coordinate efforts with the public, private, and academic sectors.
As a legislator, Delegate Morhaim has focused on health care, the environment, and streamlining government operations.
He is married, with three grown children, and lives in Owings Mills.
