Jennie Forehand is a fourth-term senator in Maryland where she chairs the Joint Federal Relations Committee and the Senate Biotech Caucus, and serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee. She also is a member of the NIH Bio-Safety Committee and the National Legislative Task Force on Genetic Technologies & Public Policy.
A founding member, National State Legislative Advisory Board on Women and Bioethics, she has also been recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by The Daily Record. Biotechnology (especially genetics and stem cell research), healthcare, privacy protections, and economic development are among her top priorities.
In 2006, the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute recognized her with the Biotechnology Leadership Award for her work on the Maryland Biotechnology Tax Incentive legislation.
Senator Forehand represents the Rockville and Gaithersburg areas, home to a number of growing biotechnology firms and institutions, in the Senate.
